Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this correlational study is to investigate senior cadets as pre-platoon leader's health perception, empathy ability, and altruistic behavior.

Methods: The data were collected from 182 senior cadets with structured questionnaires between June 29 and July 8 in 2018. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, ¥ö2-test, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS program.

Results: Health perception, Empathy ability and Altruistic Behavior of the participants were 3.11¡¾0.29, 3.75¡¾0.35, 3.97¡¾0.51 out of 5 points, respectively. The related factor of health perception was number of received somebody's help. And the related factor of empathy ability was romantic relationship, number of received somebody's help, and number of uses in military hospital. There was significantly positive correlation between health perception and empathy ability. However, there was no significant correlation between health perception and altruistic behavior.

Conclusion: The study results suggest that it is necessary to develop education strategies for platoon leaders to improve their health perception and to manage soldier's health well considering empathy ability, altruistic behavior of cadets as pre-platoon leaders in the time of military academy.
